IT TOOK TIME to get this far. It was a political football and still is. It cost two public inquiries. Put half a million bucks on the construction bill and saw one wannabe politician bite the dust at a personal cost of €38,000.
But the harbour marches on. Corporate bodies are still in charge. Democracy hangs in there somewhere. Today, witnessed the two thousandth concrete block. Well, it just happened to be ready to put into place after two sour, would-be town politicians went on the airwaves and said the harbour construction would never see the light of day.
You can't believe everything you hear, of course. Whatever number stuck on the block is better than none if you are for the harbour and terrible if you are trying to tell the world the project is dead. FactS are, the blocks still swing into place day after day. So eat your words your words dumbells.
Most of the politicians who fought hard to keep the project going were there today to reap their laurels. A photo-op in these political times. But just like those who tirade against it, they all stuck their necks out.
What a boring world it would be if we all thought the same way.
